What does a social worker career with us look like?
We recognise that to help people to develop skills and resilience to cope well with the pressures that they face, we must support one another and promote professional development.
When you join us, the first thing you’ll notice is that you’ll never be short of opportunities to develop and grow. You’ll have access to training that supports you in working creatively with individuals and families to help them make meaningful choices and decisions and equip them with the skills to handle the challenges that they face.
Together, we aim to address the root causes of challenges and vulnerabilities
Now is an exciting time to join us as we commit to a whole council approach that addresses the root causes of challenges and vulnerabilities for people, and the reasons they come into contact with us.
To achieve this, we’re focusing on:
A transformational change in culture and practice
Strong early intervention and prevention
Moving away from focusing on the individual and their challenges in isolation
Strong partnership working
Providing the right support at the right time using a Team Around the Family/Adult Approach
Reduced duplication of resources/capacity and maximise what is already available
Increasing resilience of individuals in their community
Whole population approaches that promote independence and reduce dependency on managed care and support
A great place to learn and develop
We want you to have every opportunity to achieve your full potential, both now and in the future. That’s why we are fully committed to supporting you to develop your knowledge, skills and experience so that you feel fulfilled.
You’ll quickly find that there are excellent opportunities for personal development through our core learning and development programmes, which include:
-
In-person training modules
-
e-Learning courses
-
Comprehensive training events
-
Peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing
Move into management
The role of a social work manager can be hugely rewarding; supporting others within your team to achieve positive outcomes, reflecting on practice in supervision, supporting social workers to develop and grow, and building outcome focused teams where positive social work practice can flourish.
There’s never any pressure to do so, but if you’d like to step into a social work management role, you’ll be fully supported through the following activities:
Aspiring Manager Course.
Helping you to develop the skills to being a knowledgeable, fair and empowering manager.
Ceredigion Manager Programme.
A 4-day programme covering all the core aspects of successful management and leadership.
Regular manager updates.
Including monthly manager news and an annual manager update.
Additional development opportunities.
Opportunities to further develop and gain advanced ILM and project management qualifications.
Manager’s Toolkit.

Mentoring and coaching.
Giving you the chance to learn from other managers and a space to reflect on your management.
Looking to relocate?
If you’re looking to move to Ceredigion, we cannot wait to welcome you. We have a fantastic relocation package (of up to £8,000), structured training on Safeguarding in Wales, and an incredibly supportive team.
Ceredigion is a bilingual community (speaking Welsh and English). If you do not speak Welsh, though, this not a problem. We do not see language as a barrier and have welcomed plenty of social workers from England, Scotland, across Wales and abroad.
If you are interested in learning Welsh, though, we’ll thoroughly support you to do so with different training formats to suit your learning style.
